Telling 'tails' at the Perkiomen Valley Library

Children read aloud to service dogs at regular event.

Kids and canines settled down for "Tail Waggin' Tales" storytime at the in Schwenksville this past Thursday.

Local children and their families gathered in the downstairs auditorium with books they either brought from home or selected from the library's extensive collection. The kids--many of them return visitors--then sat with one of six trained service dogs present and read stories out loud.

Library Branch Manager Aileen Johnson said events such as this can help improve children's reading skills because they can practice in front of a nonjudgmental audience--a dog.
