Ursinus lights up the night on Martin Luther King Jr. Day
Students, faculty hold candlelight vigil.

A diverse group of Ursinus College community members braved the biting cold as they participated in a candlelight vigil Monday evening in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
The vigil began at Unity House on the college campus; the group then walked to Wismer Hall, with some people belting out “This Little Light of Mine,” along the path. Once they reached their destination, the group stood in a circle and re-lit their candles as each participant recited a famous quote, concerning the importance of diversity, tolerance and standing against evil and oppression.
At 7:30 p.m., students and faculty members filed into Bomberger Hall to hear Dr. Nikitah Okembe-RA Imani’s keynote speech, “Can You Hear the Sound of the Drum?” According to an Ursinus College press release, “Okembe-RA Imani, a veteran of more than 18 years in the Black Nationalist and Pan-Africanist movements, will illuminate the ways in which Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a self-described ‘drum major for justice.’”
