Police News: Egging on Robinhood Lane, Phone Scam & DUI

A juvenile caught with drugs at the high school and a keyed truck is also in recent Peters Township police reports.

May 17, 6:15 p.m.: An 82-year-old man was the victim of a scam currently under investigation by . A person called his home claiming he was his grandson and needed money after he was in a car crash in Atlanta, GA.

The man said he’d make a call to his attorney to wire two payments—a total of $4,000—through Western Union, which he did. Then, he received a second call from “the grandson” saying he was in prison and needed more money. The Peters man realized he was the victim of fraud and reported the incident to the police.

May 18, 7:50 a.m.: A 16-year-old student was searched by staff (according to policy) after she was found in the parking lot attempting to skip class. Officials found an "almost empty" cigarette box containing one cigarette and a clear, plastic bag of marijuana. The substance was taken to the police department for testing and the juvenile was referred to juvenile court, police said.

May 19, 12:29 a.m.: Naomi E. Grodin, 54, of Upper St. Clair, was arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) and careless driving. Her gray Honda swerved and crossed lanes near the 2900 block of Washington Road, according to police.

She smelled of strong alcohol and was slurring her speech. She failed sobriety testing, police said. She was arrested near the 3200 block of Washington Road and taken to Canonsburg General Hospital. She refused to provide personal information, so she was arraigned and jailed on a $5,000 set bail. A court docket shows she was unable to post bail. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, May 29, at 2 p.m. before .

May 20, 6:37 a.m.: Police were called to the 600 block of Robinhood Lane after it was reported an egg was thrown at a mailbox. Police were called again at 3:30 p.m. to the 500 block because a house was egged overnight. There were dozens of eggshells on the roof, bricks and windows, but no damage occurred.

Another resident complained upon arrival that his house was struck as well. Police are investigating.

May 20, 6:40 p.m.: A Peters Township resident, of McCombs Road, reported his 2012 Ford F150 was keyed during a children’s sporting event at on Thursday, May 17 between 6-8 p.m. Police are investigating.
