Reminder: Eggcellent Easter Programs Happening Now

Here are some ideas for getting out in Peters Township and Washington County with the kiddos—today through Monday.

What's happening at ... ?

Easter Egg Hunt

When: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday

What: Kids can decorate their own gourd birdhouse, decorate an Easter egg gathering bag, collect 12 eggs that are exchanged for prizes, decorate a flower pot then plant the flower, and do a coloring craft. If the weather is nice, the egg hunt will be held in the orchard. If not, it will be held in the greenhouse. Email market@simmonsfarm.com or call 724-941-1490 for more information.

Breakfast with the Easter Bunny

When: 9:30 a.m. Friday and Saturday

What: Each child will receive a filling breakfast of cereal with milk, mini donuts, an orange drink and a fresh apple. The kids will then get to visit with the Easter Bunny, do a fun craft and enter in a coloring contest. For the parents: fresh coffee, muffins, bagels and more will be available. 

Cost: $8 per reservation (reservations required)

Easter Egg Hunt

When: 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday and Saturday

What: The Easter egg hunts will begin promptly following Breakfast with the Easter Bunny. The hunts will start every 30 minutes, and are divided into three age groups and patches. 

Cost: $7

Pennsylvania Trolley Museum

Live Bunnies, Easter Bunny to Visit the Trolley Museum

When: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday

What: For the first time at the museum, children will be able to see live rabbits from Washington County's 4 Leaf 4-H Club. In addition to a ride on an antique, restored trolley with the Easter Bunny, kids can make a springtime craft and participate in an egg hunt.

Visitors may also take a second trolley ride on the Easter shuttle and tour the trolley display building, which houses more than 30 streetcars. 

Complimentary pink lemonade and popcorn will be served.

Cost: $9/adults, $8/seniors, $7/children (ages 1-15), free for children under the age of 1 or $35 family rate, which includes 2 adults/seniors and 4 children

Children's Good Friday

When: 10 a.m. Friday

What: A brief worship service for children ages 3 to second grade (and siblings), which tells the story of Good Friday in a gentle way. The program will begin in the sanctuary, then move to the social hall to make a cross to wear on Easter. No registration is needed.

When: 10 a.m. to noon Saturday

What: Kids can enjoy games, crafts and a visit from the Easter Bunny. The CRC invites you to come for a "hopping fun time!" Pre-registration is required. Call 724-942-5000 for more information. 

Cost: $5 resident, $7 non-resident (ages 2 and older)

Children's Easter Celebration

When: 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Sunday

What: During the Sunday School hour on Easter Sunday, children ages 3 and older are invited to Hinman Hall to celebrate the resurrection. There will be crafts, snacks, an egg hunt and the story of the resurrection of Jesus. Parents are encouraged to stay to share in the celebration. Youth are invited to help hide the eggs and assist with crafts.

Pysanky Eggs Display and Demonstration

When: 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday

What: Capt. Michael Yanchak will display a variety of Pysanky Eggs, discuss the history and significance of the eggs and offer a brief demonstration of decorating techniques. A display of Pysanky Eggs will also be available prior to the program in the glass case located in the Keenage Korner. To attend this program, register online, at the circulation desk or call 724-941-9430.

FYI: The library will be closed Friday and Sunday. It will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Normal operating hours resume on Monday.
