2 Hospitalized After Strip District Shooting

PITTSBURGH, PA — Two people were taken to the hospital early Friday after a shooting in the Strip District.
According to Pittsburgh Public Safety officials, at around 2:15 a.m., police were dispatched to the 1100 block of Penn Avenue for reports of a man with a weapon threatening people in an establishment. While officers were en route, the call was updated to say that a man had been shot.
Arriving officers found a man in the building with multiple gunshot wounds to his chest and torso. He was taken to a nearby hospital and immediately underwent surgery. He last was reported in critical condition.

A man taken into custody at the scene experienced medical distress and was taken to an area hospital for further evaluation before he is released to the Allegheny County Jail.
Police recovered a firearm and shell casings at the scene.

The incident remains under investigation. Police said there is not believed to be any further risk to the public.
