3 Killed, 5 Hurt In Fiery Pittsburgh-Area Crash

A deadly accident claimed the lives of three Pittsburgh-area people on Monday.

FAYETTE COUNTY, PA — Three people were killed and five were injured in a fiery crash Monday on Route 40 in Henry Clay Township near Laurel Road.

The crash occurred at around 6 p.m. and involved a tractor trailer and two other vehicles, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

According to police, a tractor-trailer reportedly crossed into oncoming traffic and hit a pickup truck head-on. The pickup truck then hit a van head-on, after the initial impact.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, the driver of the pickup and a passenger in the van were killed. Their names have yet to be released.

Troopers said the victims were the driver of the tractor-trailer, the driver of the pickup truck and a passenger in the van.

The severity of the crash caused Route 40 to be shut down in both direction for hours.

The incident remains under investigation.
