HARRISBURG, PA — Gov. Josh Shapiro signed seven bills into law Monday that impact wireless phone bills, Gold Star families, motorcycle and vehicle owners and pets.
Here's a look at the new laws:
- House Bill 71: Authorizes construction of the Gold Star Families Memorial Monument on the Pennsylvania State Capitol Complex. The monument will honor and recognize the sacrifice of the fallen and remember the families they leave behind; it will be paid for by the Woody Williams Foundation, which supports Gold Star families.
- House Bill 1210: Amends the Protection From Abuse Act to give judges the ability to order the defendant to refrain from abusing the victim’s pets.
- House Bill 1304: Increases the uniform monthly 911 surcharge on each wireless line from $1.65 to $1.97 and indexes the charge with inflation through 2029.
- House Bill 1850: Amends the Second Class Township Code to clarify advertising requirements for the appointment of certified public accountants or firms.
- House Bill 2177: Amends current state law to allow for motorcycle inspections year-round. Previously, motorcycles could only be inspected from March through October.
- House Bill 2426: Bans license plate flipping devices that can be used to conceal a license plate, modify its appearance or switch one license plate to another.
- Senate Bill 155: Includes motorcycles in the Automobile Lemon Law, providing consumer protections for motorcycle buyers as the state does for car buyers.
