AccuWeather has issued it predictions for what to expect in Pittsburgh and across the country during the winter season.

PITTSBURGH, PA —State College-based AccuWeather is not predicting a tranquil winter season for Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania.

The weather service instead is forecasting a rough and snowy road ahead for much of the country.

"It can be an intense stormy winter for areas of the country, particularly across the Midwest, Great Lakes, Ohio Valley, Northeast and parts of the mid-Atlantic," AccuWeather Lead Long-Range Meteorologist Paul Pastelok said.

The average winter snowfall for Pittsburgh between 1991 and 2020 is 44.1 inches. Last year, the area received 34 inches.

AccuWeather says that this year, the area can expect a lower than average snowfall total of between 28 and 35 inches.

That's nothing compared to other cities such as Buffalo, which is expected to receive accumulations of 90 to 100 inches this winter.
