PITTSBURGH, PA — Aldi is planning a new store in a bustling Pittsburgh location.

The grocery store chain will replace a Staples on Banksville Road near a Kuhn's grocery store. The company's real estate broker confirmed the move on social media.

"We did our due diligence into the market and after concluding the best spot was the Staples, we continued to stay in touch and work with the landlord until they eventually a few years later could recapture the space," the post from Bennett Williams Commercial Real Estate stated.

"This will provide a great addition to the local community giving them a brand new grocery option and was a great reposition for the underlying owners."

In March 2024, Aldi announced plans to add 800 stores nationwide by the end of 2028 through a combination of new openings and store conversions.

“Our growth is fueled by our customers, and they are asking for more Aldi stores in their neighborhoods nationwide,” Aldi CEO Jason Hart said at the time.

“With up to 40 percent savings on groceries, new customers are inspired to try us out, and existing customers keep coming back... With this commitment to add 800 stores, we’ll be where our shoppers need us while positively impacting the communities we serve.”

Aldi currently lists 10 locations in the Pittsburgh area on its website, including stores in the South Side, Lawrenceville, Ross, McCandless and Friendship.
