PITTSBURGH, PA — After more than three decades, a ubiquitous Pittsburgh alternative publication is ending its weekly print edition.
Pittsburgh City Paper announced the move on Wednesday.
"For a while now, we’ve been battling hard times. And it’s not because we lack the drive," executive editor Ali Trachta stated in a message to readers.

"We’re facing rising costs and less revenue, but also, misinformation, hostility towards media, a rough economy, and loss of talent to more stable industries."
Trachta said the paper will print four quarterly "super-issues" per year "that will function as your 'Bible' for the season."

Trachta pledged that the paper will maintain an active online presence between the quarterly printed editions.
City Paper is owned by Block Communications, which also owns the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. That paper has drastically cut back on days in which it publishes a printed edition in recent years.
