Animals Intentionally Blown Up In Pittsburgh: Police

Police say animals intentionally were exploded in Pittsburgh and videos of their deaths were posted on social media.

PITTSBURGH, PA — Pittsburgh Public Safety said animal cruelty charges are pending in an incident in which animals were intentionally exploded. Police were alerted to the incident after the videos were posted on social media.

The videos, which Patch will not display, show individuals attaching mice to fireworks with duct tape and then igniting the devices. The animals, which apparently were purchased at a local pet store, were killed.

The incident occurred in Pittsburgh's Northview Heights neighborhood.

At the scene, investigators recovered a plastic bin, fireworks remnants, and a roll of tape. Multiple witnesses were interviewed and closed circuit TV footage has been reviewed.

One man was taken into custody on unrelated charges. Police said additional charges are forthcoming. Police did not indicate how many people will be charged.
