Brave Pittsburgh-Area Bank Teller Foils Robbery Attempt

A robbery suspect got more than he bargained for when he messed with this bank teller.

CARNEGIE, PA — A bank teller wasn't going to let someone come into his workplace and rob it.

Allegheny County police arrested a man who allegedly robbed the Citizens Bank on West Main Street on Thursday after the teller confronted the robber, chased him and recovered much of the stolen money.

A man wearing a surgical mask and gloves entered the bank at 1:22 p.m. and demanded money from a teller. No weapon was observed. A different teller interceded and recovered some of the money while the robber was still in the bank.

The bank teller then chased the robber out of the bank and onto neighboring streets, recovering an more of the money while fighting with the suspect in the backyard of a home.

The suspect escaped before police arrived, but eventually with the actor in the backyard of a home. The actor was able to escape the bank teller before police arrived.

After a brief search, police located the suspect hiding in the 300 block of Logan Street and took him into custody after a foot pursuit.

Arrested was Marcus Sibeto, 37, of Carnegie. He was charged with robbery by oral or written demand, theft by unlawful taking of movable property, receiving stolen property, simple assault, resisting arrest, and terroristic threats.

Sibeto was taken to the county jail, where he awaiting arraignment.
