Charges Filed In Pittsburgh-Area Elementary School Student Assault

A special needs student was assaulted by a Pittsburgh-area school district contractor, police said.

KENNEDY TOWNSHIP, PA — A paraprofessional has been charged with assaulting a 10-year-old female elementary school student with special needs.

Allegheny County police received a ChildLine report that the paraprofessional, working as a contractor for an outside agency at Sto-Rox Elementary School, struck a student. Investigators reviewed videos that showed the student standing in a school hallway near a door.

According to police, the video then shows the paraprofessional opening the door with such force that the student was knocked to the ground with such force that her glasses were broken on impact. The student was evaluated for a minor eye injury.

Witnesses told police the adult didn't try to help the student and walked away from the area.

Police charged London Simmons, 31, with simple assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
