Consumer Alert Issued For Suburban Pittsburgh Restaurant

An inspection at this suburban Pittsburgh restaurant prompted the Allegheny County Health Department to issue a consumer alert.

PITTSBURGH, PA — The Allegheny County Health Department has issued a consumer alert for Walnut Grill-Fox Chapel in the Waterworks Mall for numerous health code violations.

An inspection on Thursday revealed 11 dead mice in multiple areas, specifically the bar and staff locker room. A live mouse was observed fleeing from the seating area.

Numerous rodent droppings were found by the ware-washing sink, food preparation area, dry food storage area, kitchen pick-up window, refrigeration equipment, bar area, ice machine area, staff lockers and utility sink area.

Gnawed and nesting material was found in the ice machine area condenser unit housing and the secondary dining room.

Additionally, a black mold- like substance and pink sludge were found on part of the kitchen ice machine.

A restaurant with a consumer alert placard is allowed to operate for a temporary period not exceeding 10 days. Another inspection is conducted either prior to the expiration of the temporary period upon request of the eatery owner or on the tenth day.
