PITTSBURGH, PA — The National Weather Service is warning that showers and thunderstorms will result in periods of heavy rainfall today. Flash flooding will be a threat, especially in areas that have recently observed heavy rainfall over the past several days.

A flood watch is in effect for Pittsburgh and most of Western Pennsylvania from 11 a.m to 10 p.m. today.

Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Low-water crossings may be flooded. Storm drains and ditches may become clogged with debris. Area creeks and streams are running high and could flood with more heavy rain.
