Former Pittsburgh-Area HS Football Star Dies In Shooting
A former all-conference high school football player was fatally shot in Pittsburgh.
PITTSBURGH, PA — The man killed in a shooting in the city's Larimer section late Monday night was a former Woodland Hills High School football player.
Just before 11 p.m., Gavin Yarbough, 21, was taken to an area hospital in a private vehicle. He had been shot multiple times and died a short time later.
Pittsburgh Public Safety officials said police located the crime scene in the 100 block of Meadow Street in Larimer following a Shot Spotter notification at 10:48 p.m.

Yarbough graduated from Woodland Hills in 2021 and went on to play football at Morgan State University, a historically Black university in Baltimore. According to his Morgan State biography page, he was an all-conference defensive back while playing for Woodland Hills.
"Gavin was a popular and well-liked student during his time at Woodland Hills," district Superintendent Daniel Castagna said in a statement. "Our sincere condolences are with his friends and family during this unimaginably difficult time."

No suspects have been identified.
