Giant Eagle, Pittsburgh Native & Billionaire Mark Cuban Teaming Up For Lower Prescription Prices

Mark Cuban and Giant Eagle are teaming up to lower prescription prices in Pittsburgh. Patch provides the details.

PITTSBURGH, PA — Giant Eagle is teaming up with Mark Cuban, the Mt. Lebanon native and billionaire, to help lower prescription drug prices in Western Pennsylvania and in other states.

Cuban, a part-owner of the Dallas Mavericks NBA team will be in town Wednesday to announce with Giant Eagle CEO Bill Artman that the supermarket chain's pharmacies will pair with Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Company to enable people to maximize savings on their prescription medications.

"We started Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Company because every American should have access to safe, affordable medicines," Cuban states on the company website.

"If you don’t have insurance or have a high deductible plan, you know that even the most basic medications can cost a fortune. Many people are spending crazy amounts of money each month just to stay healthy. No American should have to suffer-or worse-because they can’t afford basic prescription medications."

Cuban contends his company offers safe drugs at the lowest possible prices.

Cuban is philanthropic and is has been involved in political commentary and reality television. In May, Forbes estimated his net worth to be $5.7 billion.
