Hazardous Weather Warning Issued For Pittsburgh Area

The National Weather Service is warning of the potential for severe weather in the Pittsburgh area.

PITTSBURGH, PA — The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch from late tonight through Wednesday night for the Pittsburgh area.

Periods of heavy rain Wednesday may result in localized flooding. Afternoon thunderstorms may also pose a low end severe risk with damaging wind and a tornado the primary hazards.

Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur
in poor drainage and urban areas.

Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.

The weather service says there is a chance of showers before 11 p.m., then a chance of showers and
thunderstorms between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m., then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2 a.m. The chance of precipitation is 70 percent and new rainfall amounts between a quarter and a half inch are possible.

On Wednesday, expect showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 8a.m., then showers between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m., then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 11 a.m. The high will be near 80. The chance of precipitation is 100 percent and rainfall amounts between three quarters of an inch and an inch are possible.

Overnight on Wednesday, showers and a potential thunderstorm are possible. The chance of precipitation is 90 percent and rainfall amounts of as much as a half-inch are anticipated.

There is an 80 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms on Thursday, with a high of only 59. The chance of precipitation will occur into Friday as well.
