PITTSBURGH, PA — Nearly 40 Pittsburgh Public Schools buildings without air conditioning will operate on a half-day schedule Wednesday due to anticipated extreme heat.
The district's extreme heat protocol, which calls for students to switch to remote learning when excessive high temperatures are forecast, is being adjusted to accommodate the demands of the new school year. According to the district, those demands include the distribution of devices necessary for remote learning.
The National Weather Service is predicting temperatures in the low 90s, with heat index values potentially approaching 100.
