Heat Sending Thousands Of Pittsburgh-Area School Students Home Early
Students in multiple Pittsburgh-area schools will be dismissed early due to the extreme heat. Get the details here.
PITTSBURGH, PA — Multiple school districts in Western Pennsylvania are letting students go home early today because of the hot weather conditions. Temperatures are forecast to reach the mid-90s, with heat index values approaching 100.
The Pittsburgh Public Schools, the region's largest district, has placed students in 37 schools on a half-day schedule. The schools with the early dismissal do not have air conditioning.
In the Shaler Area School District, dismissal times will be as follows:

- High School: 11:45 am
- Middle School: 12:15 pm
- Elementary School: 12:30 pm
- Primary Schools: 1 pm
In the New Kensington-Arnold School District in Westmoreland County, students will be dismissed two hours before their regular time.
In the Freedom Area School District in Beaver County, high and middle school dismissal will begin at 12:40 p.m. Elementary dismissal begins at 1:50 p.m.
