Huge Pittsburgh-Area School Bus Crash: Latest Info

Here is the most recent information on the weekend school bus crash that sent more than 20 people to the hospital.

PITTSBURGH, PA — The aftermath of bus crash involving Aliquippa Jr. High football players, parents and staff has left a student in critical condition.

However, the driver of the bus and 19 others have been released from the hospital.

The crash occurred Saturday morning in the 190 block of Shaffer Avenue in Economy. The Economy Volunteer Fire Department issued the following statement on the incident:

"At approximately 9:55 am, we were alerted by Beaver County Emergency Services to a vehicle accident involving a school bus rollover with 30 passengers. Injuries were unknown. One patient was seen laying on the ground outside the vehicle. Economy Ambulance quickly arrived, initiating a Mass Casualty Incident (meaning multiple injuries) response and dispatching QRS crews from Aliquippa Fire, Brighton Twp Fire, and Baden Fire.

"These crews swiftly assessed patients, provided medical care, and ensured accountability within the medical triage area. Surrounding ambulances were dispatched for efficient patient transport. Along with control of the initial scene, Economy VFD members also assisted in medical triage, clearing the bus, and maintaining traffic flow for the emergency transports. One patient was flown to Children's, while 21+ other patients were taken by ambulance.

"The Pennsylvania State Police were notified for accident reconstruction. An accident of this severity demands swift decision-making and extensive collaboration. We appreciate the support of our medical partners, police department, and mutual aid companies."
