Illegal School Bus Stops: See Pittsburgh-Area Numbers Here

See how many people have been cited over the last five years in the Pittsburgh area for illegal traffic moves around school buses.

PITTSBURGH, PA — Allegheny County is a leader in the amount of illegal school bus-related stops over the last five years, according to data released Wednesday by the Pennsylvania Courts.

Allegheny County had the second-highest percentage of stops in the last five years among Pennsylvania's 67 counties, accounting for a total of 17.6 percent of the statewide total. Montgomery County near Philadelphia topped the list with 31.8 percent of the citations.

Allegheny County has had a total of 1,388 citations over the past five years. The courts provided the following breakdown:

  • 2020: 169
  • 2021: 294
  • 2022: 313
  • 2023: 300
  • 2024: 262

"As the new school year approaches, the Pennsylvania Courts wants to remind drivers to slow down in school zones, stop for school buses and stay alert to help ensure the safety of our students," the courts said in a release. "Over the past five years (2020-2024), 22,502 Pennsylvania drivers have been cited for school zone violations."
