Kennywood Steel Curtain Return Date Revealed
Kennywood's thrilling Steel Coaster is reopening after being out of commission for more than a year. Find out here when opening day is.

WEST MIFFLIN, PA — After being closed for more than a year, the famed Steel Curtain coaster will reopen at Kennywood on May 24.
The official grand opening will be marked by a ribbon cutting ceremony, remarks from the park’s General Manager, Ricky Spicuzza, and special guests joining from the Pittsburgh Steelers, including current players and alumni. Gold and Platinum pass holders will get exclusive ride time May 23.
The coaster was closed for the entire 2024 summer season after officials announced that an extensive modification was necessary after frequent periods in 2023 when it was non-operational. Park personnel worked with third-party engineers and the ride's manufacturer to determine how best to increase the popular Steelers-themed ride's reliability.

Kennywood added three new columns and additional braces throughout the ride. The modification decreased the structural movement of the coaster, ultimately allowing it to make more cycles throughout its lifespan.
“We can’t wait to reintroduce this iconic coaster to our guests," Kennywood general manager Ricky Spicuzz said on Thursday. "With a heightened focused on the Steel Curtain’s reliability, this summer guests can expect to hop on for a ride during every visit to Kennywood.”
