Landmark Pittsburgh Bar Reopening With New Name, Concept

Five years after the abrupt closure of a legendary Pittsburgh bar, new life is being breathed into the venue. Get the details here.

PITTSBURGH, PA — After two years of extensive renovations, the former Hambone's bar in Lawrenceville reopens on Friday as Butler Street Derby.

Co-owner Corey Deasy announced the opening on social media.

"We're bringing Lawrenceville a top-tier nightlife experience, complete with electrifying DJ sets, signature cocktails, and a party vibe that will keep you going all night long. Whether you’re here for the music, the drinks, or a night out with friends, this is where the action happens.

"And for the perfect bites to go with your drinks, we’ve got you covered. Think juicy smash burgers, crispy wings, hearty sandwiches, indulgent tater kegs, fresh salads, and our delicious burrata toast."

Hambone's, a Butler Street staple for 35 years that was known for hosting comedy and music events, closed in October 2019 following the sudden death of tavern owner Jeff Holt.

Butler Street Derby's ownership group also is behind the new Playground Dropout in Millvale and the Escape Room in Greenfield.
