Legendary Pittsburgh Ice Cream Shop Reopening

It turns out that news of an iconic Pittsburgh ice cream shop's demise was premature.

PITTSBURGH, PA — When Dave & Andy's Homemade Ice Cream shop closed in April after 40 years, an Oakland institution was consigned to mere memory.

Or so people thought. Andy Hardie, who shut down the popular shop to retire, has sold the business to new owners.

The Atwood Street shop's impending reopening, which is coinciding with the return of thousands of University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University students for the fall semester, was announced on social media Monday.

The shop's tentative reopening date is Sept. 7, according to multiple media reports.

Hardie founded the business with Dave Tuttle, but became the shop's sole proprietor in the early 1990s.
