Pittsburgh-Area Department Store Up For Sale
A Pittsburgh-area mall soon could be losing a major anchor tenant. Get the details here.
PITTSBURGH, PA — In another blow to the struggling Pittsburgh Mills Mall, Macy's has put its store there on the market.
A prospective from real estate company Colliers said the two-story, 173,000-square-foot store, which Macy's owns rather than leases from mall owner Namdar Realty Group, does not indicate any immediate plans for closure. News of the prospective first was reported in the Pittsburgh Business Times.
Macy’s in January announced it is moving forward with plans to close 66 stores. Over three years in a plan described as Macy’s “Bold New Chapter,” the company plans to close 150 underperforming stores while at the same time investing more heavily in 350 stores that will remain open, according to a news release.

The potential loss of Macy's is another setback for the reeling Pittsburgh Mills Mall. Earlier this month, Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen Zappala filed a criminal complaint against Namdar alleging the company's lack of road maintenance around the mall has created a public nuisance.
If Macy's departs, the sole anchor remaining at the mall would be Dick's Sporting Good.
