Man Killed After Jumping Out Of Moving Car On Pittsburgh Highway

The fatal incident shut down the northbound lanes of Route 28 for nearly four hours.

PITTSBURGH, PA — A man died Tuesday morning after he apparently jumped from a moving vehicle and was struck by another vehicle on Route 28.

Allegheny County police said the incident occurred shortly before 7 a.m. on Route 28 just north of the Exit 4- Etna. First responders found the man dead at the scene.

Police said preliminary information shows the victim jumped from a vehicle traveling in the northbound lanes of Route 28. Those lanes were closed for nearly four hours after the incident.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s office identified the victim as Connell Nihei, 50, of Pittsburgh.

Police said all involved parties remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation.
