Man Shot On Busy Downtown Pittsburgh Street

PITTSBURGH, PA — Police are investigating the shooting of a man on a Downtown street Wednesday afternoon.

According to Pittsburgh Public Safety officials, just after 4 p.m., an officer from the Downtown Public Safety Center heard a gunshot in the 400 block of Smithfield Street. The officer spotted a man with a gun. He immediately placed it on the ground, was detained, and taken into custody for questioning.

A man with a gunshot wound to the abdomen ran down Smithfield Street and rounded the corner onto Forbes Avenue, where he was treated by police and Pittsburgh Rapid Transit officers. He was taken to the hospital in critical but stable condition.

Mobile Crime Unit detectives processed evidence at the scene. Violent Crime Unit detectives will review all available video of the incident.
