Man Wounded In Downtown Pittsburgh Stabbing

A violent incident occurred in broad daylight occurred in Downtown Pittsburgh on Friday. Patch provides the details.

PITTSBURGH, PA — A Downtown convenience store employee was stabbed Friday afternoon after an altercation with an attempted shoplifter.

Police were sent to the store on the 600 block of Liberty Avenue shortly after 1 p.m. and found the man with a stab wound to his ribs. He was conscious, alert, and speaking with officers and medics. The victim was transported by Pittsburgh EMS to a local hospital in stable condition.

The victim and other witnesses told officers that a man was attempting to steal merchandise. The victim tried to stop the man, the pair struggled and the employee was stabbed.

The assailant then fled on foot towards the North Shore. Officers used city cameras to track the man to the river trail near PNC Park.

He was taken into custody and initially transported to an area hospital for medical clearance. He will then be taken to the Allegheny County Jail.

Charges are forthcoming. The suspect's identity was not immediately released.
