Pittsburgh Rite Aid Pharmacy Prescriptions Transferred: Latest Info

PITTSBURGH, PA — Giant Eagle is taking over pharmacy prescriptions from 78 Rite Aid stores that are closing across Pennsylvania and Ohio, the Cranberry-based supermarket chain announced Thursday.

Rite Aid filed for bankruptcy on May 4 for the second time in less than two years after the previous restructuring lessened the pharmacy chain's debt but still left it on unsound financial footing.

The prescriptions transfer will occur in waves over the next month and is subject to regulatory approval. Giant Eagle is notifying Rite Aid customers regarding the change.
