UNITY TOWNSHIP, PA — Police and rescue workers still are searching for a missing Westmoreland County woman they believe fell into a 30-foot sinkhole.

The search continued Tuesday night near Marguerite Road in Unity Township for Elizabeth Pollard, 64, who apparently was searching for her missing cat. Her car was found early Tuesday behind Monday's Union restaurant. Her 5-year-old granddaughter was inside the vehicle.

Pollard has not been seen since around 5 p.m. Monday. Her family notified authorities that she was missing at around 1 a.m. Tuesday.

Temperatures dropped into the 20s overnight.

A camera inserted into the sinkhole indicated a "big void, and it was all different depths," Marguerite Fire Chief Scot Graham said at a news conference Tuesday. "The process is long and it is tedious."

Searchers have discovered a shoe in the sinkhole, which the state Department of Environmental Protection said likely was caused by subsidence from an abandoned mine.
