Multiple Ex-Steelers Move Closer To Pro Football Hall Of Fame Induction

Some former Steelers have advanced in the running to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

PITTSBURGH, PA — Four former Steelers have advance to the voting process for the Modern-Era Players for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2026.

The quartet is among 52 players who survived the initial cut. Now, the Hall of Fame’s full 50-person selection committee will review the complete list and vote for the 25 nominees each believes should advance to the semifinalist stage. That should occur in about five weeks.

The Steelers who advanced are kicker Gary Anderson, linebacker James Harrison, center Maurkice Pouncey and receiver Hines Ward.

Anderson played for the Steelers from 1982-84 and earned three Pro Bowl selections as well as a first-team Associated Press All-Pro selection. The team's all-time leader in total points scored with 1,343, Anderson also played for the Philadelphia Eagles, San Francisco 49ers, Minnesota Vikings and Tennessee Titans.

Harrison played 14 seasons with the Steelers and was voted first-team Associated Press All-Pro twice, a Pro Bowl selection for five consecutive years and twice was voted Steelers MVP. His 100-yard interception against the Arizona Cardinals in Super Bowl XLIII remains one of the most famous plays in Super Bowl history.

Pouncey was the first center in NFL history to be selected to the Pro Bowl in each of his first three seasons; he was Pro Bowl selection nine times during his career. He was twice voted first-team Associated Press All-Pro and was a second-team AP All-Pro selection three times.

Ward played 14 years for the Steelers and amassed 1,000 career receptions. He was the MVP of Super Bowl XL after leading the Steelers to a 21-10 win over the Seattle Seahawks. In three Super Bows, registered 14 receptions for 244 yards and two touchdowns
