PENNSYLVANIA — It was a bleak year for many brick-and-mortar retailers in Pennsylvania, as many chains announced store closures and several said they were going out of business entirely.

Retail data provider CoreSight earlier this year noted a 24 percent increase in store closures over last year as the retail industry adjusts to a shift in consumer shopping to online outlets, inflation and bankruptcies.
