PITTSBURGH, PA — Dangerous heat, and a chance of severe storms and flooding. Weather-wise, the week is not off to the best of starts.
The Pittsburgh area is under an Extreme Heat Warning through Wednesday evening. The National Weather Service says heat index values could reach 105 degrees.
Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events.

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.

The weather service advises that as temperatures soar, take a moment to check in on neighbors, friends and family - especially the elderly, those with medical conditions and anyone without air conditioning.
