400+ Crashes Investigated By PA State Police Over New Year's Holiday
Pennsylvania State Police have released a crash and incident report for the 2025 New Year's holiday period.
PENNSYLVANIA — The number of vehicular crashes during the New Year's Day holiday period increased this year over the same period in 2024, according to information released Friday by the Pennsylvania State Police.
From Dec. 31 to Jan. 2, state police investigated 425 crashes, resulting in one death and 68 injuries. Last year, there were 336 wrecks, five fatalities and 68 injuries. Police said impaired driving was a factor in 31 of the crashes this year.
The fatal crash occurred in Troop N, which covers Monroe and Carbon counties. An incident report on the wreck was not yet available on Friday.

During the three-day period this year, troopers arrested 254 people for driving under the influence and issued the following citations:
- 2,727 for speeding, compared to 3,833 last year.
- 383 for failing to wear a seat belt. That's an increase over the 344 issued in 2024.
- 50 for not securing children in safety seats. Fifty-six were issued last year.
The statistics cover only those incidents investigated by the state police and do not include incidents to which other law enforcement agencies responded.
