Pedestrian Fatally Struck By Car, Driver Tried To Flee: Police
Pittsburgh authorities said the collision happened just before 2:30 a.m. Saturday in the city's Bluff neighborhood.
PITTSBURGH, PA — A man is dead after authorities said he was struck by a car early Saturday morning in uptown Pittsburgh.
According to city police, officers responded to Vine Street at Fifth Avenue in the Bluff neighborhood just before 2:30 a.m. after receiving calls about a vehicle vs. pedestrian collision.
When officers arrived, they found a man in the roadway who had suffered a significant head injury. The man was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died a few hours later.

Witnesses at the scene told officers that the driver of the car that struck the man attempted to flee on foot after the collision, but bystanders restrained him until police arrived.
After reviewing evidence, police said alcohol was a reason for the collision. Charges are pending against the male driver, who was taken to Allegheny County Jail.

The victim’s identity will be released by the Office of the Allegheny County Medical Examiner.
