Pirates Fan Who Fell From PNC Park 21-Foot Wall: Latest Update

Here's the latest information on the fan who fell from the PNC Park Clemente Wall on Wednesday.

PITTSBURGH, PA — The man who fell from the 21-foot-tall Clemente Wall at PNC Park remained in critical condition Friday after reportedly suffering a fractured skull.

The fan has been identified as Kavan Markwood, 20. He fell from the bleachers onto right field during the seventh inning of the Pirates game against the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday. The game was paused while emergency crews responded to the scene.

Pittsburgh Public Safety officials said the fall was accidental and that authorities do not anticipate providing any additional updates to the public.

Pirates owner Bob Nutting issued the following statement regarding the incident:

“We are all deeply saddened and truly heartbroken after the terrible accident that occurred. It was one of the most difficult moments many of us have ever experienced. We are devastated. Pirates baseball is a community, and our fans are like family. In times like these, we must come together, support one another, and keep him and his loved ones in our prayers.

“We also want to thank and appreciate the efforts of the first responders who rushed to his attention and provided him with compassionate care."

Markwood was a 2022 graduate of South Allegheny High School and attended Walsh University in North Canton, Ohio. He was listed on the Walsh football team roster in 2022.

"The Walsh University community was deeply saddened to learn about the tragic accident involving former student Kavan Markwood," the university stated in a social media post. "Our thoughts and heartfelt prayers are with him, his family, and friends during this very difficult time. We are hoping and praying for a full recovery."
