Pittsburgh-Area Man Crushed To Death By Boulder
A Pittsburgh-area man had a fatal incident in a Westmoreland County mine shaft on Tuesday.
PITTSBURGH, PA — A man died Tuesday after a rock crushed him in a mine shaft in Derry Township, Westmoreland County.
Westmoreland County Coroner Tim Carson identified the man as James F. Gershman, 61, of White Township, Indiana County, WPXI-TV reported.
Gershman was a quarry employee working in the mine shaft when the 500-pound rock fell on him.

The incident occurred in the 300 block of Quarry Road at Heidelberg Materials.
It's unclear how the accident occurred. Pennsylvania State Police are investigating the incident.
