SPRINGDALE, PA — The attempted demolition of the former Cheswick Power Station's boiler house building didn't go quite as planned Sunday, as the cables that were to have razed the structure didn't fully do the job.

About 30 percent of the structure remains after the bulk of the 13-story building collapsed at around 9:30 a.m.

According to Allegheny County police, CPERG, the Cheswick Power Station property owner, and its contactor B&B Wrecking and Excavation Inc. have ensured Springdale officials the remaining portion of the building is currently stable.

A final demolition of the remaining portion is tentatively scheduled for March 8, weather permitting.

No explosives were used in Sunday's demolition attempt. Instead, heavy equipment pulled cables that were attached to beams in the building.
