PITTSBURGH, PA — The Ringgold Area School District canceled classes on Monday following a stabbing at a youth football game on Sunday.

The incident occurred at the district's Joe Montana Stadium in Monongahela Sunday afternoon.

WPXI-TV reported that Daron Carpenter, 17, has been charged as an adult with criminal attempted homicide, aggravated assault and possession of a weapon on school property.

"While there will be no formal classes, school buildings will remain open, and counseling services will be available for any student who may need support during this time," Superintendent Randall Skrinjorich stated in a message on the district website.

"We understand that this decision may cause an inconvenience for some of our families, and we appreciate your patience and flexibility. After careful consideration, we believe this is the least disruptive and most supportive option for our students and staff at this time.

"The safety and well-being of our school community remain our highest priorities. We will continue to work closely with local authorities and will keep you informed of any new developments.
