Pittsburgh-Area School District Teachers Authorize Strike

Teachers in a suburban Pittsburgh school district have voted to allow their union leaders to call for a strike.

ALLEGHENY COUNTY, PA — With the start of the 2024-25 year looming, teachers in the Pine-Richland School District on Monday voted to authorize a strike.

The vote by more than 300 members of the Pine-Richland Education Association was unanimous.

The vote does not mean that a strike is imminent. But it enables the union bargaining team to call for one if it feels such an action is appropriate.

The union's contract expired at the end of June. Annie Brisco of the Pennsylvania State Education Association told WTAE-TV that wage, benefit and teacher workload issues remain unresolved.

According to WPXI-TV, the school board issued a statement saying that the district has made multiple proposals during the bargaining process, each of which has included salary increases.
