Pittsburgh-Area Teacher Facing Rape, Other Charges

PITTSBURGH, PA — A former Butler County elementary school teacher and volleyball coach has been held for court after being charged with raping a 16-year-old girl.

Jared Lampus, 50, of Buffalo Township, has been charged with one felony count each of rape, human trafficking, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, aggravated indecent assault, sexual assault,>intercourse with a student, sexual assault by a sports official, unlawful contact with a minor, corruption of minors and criminal attempt at involuntary deviate sexual intercourse; and one misdemeanor count each of corruption of minors and theft.

Lampus was a Freeport Area School District teacher. He pleaded not guilty to the charges at a preliminary hearing at a Saxonburg district justice's office on Tuesday.

The alleged victim, now 18, testified online that Lampus was her private volleyball coach when she was 16 and began what evolved into a sexual relationship between the two.

Lampus is being held in the Butler County prison in leiu of $500,000 bond.
