Pittsburgh Boy Shot In Head: Latest Info

A young Pittsburgh boy was shot in the head over the weekend. Patch provides the latest information on what occurred.

PITTSBURGH, PA — Police are investigating a shooting involving two children that occurred over the weekend in the city's California-Kirkbride neighborhood.

At approximately 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, Pittsburgh Police were dispatched to the 900 block of Kirkbride Street. When they arrived, they found an 7-year-old boy with a single gunshot wound to the head.

EMS took him to the hospital in critical condition.

Preliminary information indicates the 7-year-old and a 9-year-old boy were handling a firearm in the basement of a residence when it discharged. The 9-year-old told police that he was in possession of the firearm when the incident occurred.

Detectives recovered a firearm at the scene.

The 9-year-old and a 15-year old teen who also was present at the scene, were take to police headquarters for further questioning.

The investigation remains ongoing. As of Monday morning, no charges have been filed.
