Pittsburgh Crosstown Bouelvard Repair Work To Cause Traffic Headaches
Expect detours and delays this weekend as PennDOT repairs a large hole that appeared on a Crosstown Boulevard ramp.

PITTSBURGH, PA — PennDOT's plans to repair a large hole that appeared Monday on the Crosstown Boulevard ramp to the Boulevard of the Allies will trigger detours and likely weekend traffic problems.
The work will be begin on Friday.
A steel plate was placed over the hole Monday, when reports of daylight and exposed rebar visible from beneath the ramp surfaced. The ramp installation forced its temporary closure while the plate was installed.

PennDOT says the issue presents no threat to passing motorists.
The ramp will be closed from 8 p.m. Thursday until 6 a.m.

Compounding the traffic headaches: An additional around-the-clock lane closure on inbound Parkway East under the Birmingham Bridge — from 9 p.m. Friday through 6 a.m. Monday for painting operations.
PennDOT's posted detour for the Crosstown Boulevard work:
Southbound
I-579 to southbound Boulevard of the Allies
- From southbound I-579, take the ramp to 7th Avenue/6th Avenue
- Take the ramp toward PPG Arena/6th Avenue
- Continue onto 6th Avenue
- Turn left onto Grant Street
- Turn left onto Forbes Avenue
- Turn right onto Craft Avenue
- Follow Craft to the Boulevard of the Allies
- End detour
Bigelow Boulevard to southbound Boulevard of the Allies
- From southbound Bigelow Boulevard, take the ramp to PPG Arena/6th Avenue
- Continue onto 6th Avenue
- Turn left onto Grant Street
- Turn left onto Forbes Avenue
- Turn right onto Craft Avenue
- Follow Craft to the Boulevard of the Allies
- End detour
