Pittsburgh Eatery Gets National Acclaim

A popular Pittsburgh dining spot has garnered an award from a national organization.

PITTSBURGH, PA — A Pittsburgh eatery has been recognized as among the nation's best places to get a vegan breakfast sandwich.

PETA has lauded Allegro Bakery in Squirrel Hill for it's plant-powered sandwich, which features a tofu egg patty, house-made vegan sausage, melty oat-based cheese, pickles and tomato mayo, all on a brioche roll.

No chicken meat is involved.

“Allegro Bakery has created a cracking good sandwich that’s kind to chickens and their customers’ arteries, and bursting with flavor,” PETA president Ingrid Newkirk said in a statement. . “Every winner on PETA’s awards list shows that delicious vegan eggs can start your day right in every way.”

Allegro Bakery will receive a framed award certificate from PETA.

Allegro Bakery is located at 2034 Murray Ave. and is open Tuesday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sandwiches and salads are only available Tuesday through Sunday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
