Pittsburgh Flooding: 100 Girl Scouts, Counselors Require Rescue

About 100 Girl Scouts and their counselors had to be rescued in a Pittsburgh flooding incident Tuesday.

PITTSBURGH, PA — About 100 Girl Scouts and their counselors had to be rescued during a flooding incident in North Park on Tuesday.

Emergency crews responded to the Girl Scout Cabin off of Kummer Road around 1 p.m., WPXI-TV reported.

Everyone was safely evacuated.

"A large group of individuals near the Girl Scout Cabin in North Park became stranded due to an overflowing stream nearby," Allegheny County police spokesperson Jim Madalinsky said in a statement. "There were approximately 105 people in the group, and they were all helped to safety with the assistance of local fire, police, EMS and Swiftwater crews."

The National Weather Service lowers the flooding risk today with spottier shower coverage and faster storm motion. But there is a severe threat looming as a line of storms is expected to be moving eastward through the Ohio Valley late tonight into early Thursday.

Wind is the main severe threat.

Today, showers and thunderstorms are likely. The chance of precipitation is 70 percent. The chance of storms is 60 percent tonight and 90 percent tomorrow.
