Pittsburgh Hospital Among Nation's Top 100 Medical Facilities: Study

A Pittsburgh hospital was among five Pennsylvania medical facilities that rank among the country's top 100, according to a new report.

PITTSBURGH, PA — A Pittsburgh hospital ranks among the nation's 100 best, according to a new national report. The “Great Hospitals in America” list, from Chicago-based trade publication Becker’s Healthcare, considers Allegheny General Hospital on the North Side as one of the country's top medical care facilities.

Becker’s said the list of 100 hospitals is not exhaustive, and is not an endorsement of the included hospitals. Hospitals submitted nominations, and Becker’s editorial team conducted research to compile their list.

"With 24,000 inpatient admissions, 23,000 surgeries, and more than 56,000 emergency department visits each year, Allegheny General Hospital is the highest volume hospital in the Allegheny Health Network.

"In addition to its status as one of Pennsylvania’s top transplant centers, the 552-bed quaternary care and educational hospital has been recognized by Healthgrades as one of the nation’s top hospitals for cardiac surgery, cardiac care and coronary intervention in 2024.

"In the past decade, the hospital acquired a new orthopedic center, cardiovascular intensive care unit, cardiac MRI center, hybrid operating rooms and surgical robots, and began construction on a new neuroscience tower in 2023."
