Pittsburgh HS Revises Athletic Event Safety Policies After Shooting
A Pittsburgh school district has new safety protocols for its high school stadium following a nearby shooting during a football game Friday.
TURTLE CREEK, PA — The Woodland Hills School District is revising its athletic event attendance policies after a shooting near the Wolvarena Friday prompted the suspension of the Woodland Hills-Penn Hills football game.
Allegheny County police and several local departments were notified of the shooting at around 10:06 p.m. A man had left the game and was walking near the stadium in the 900 block of Oak Avenue when he heard several shots fired and was struck by one in the leg.
The man ran back to the stadium seeking medical attention and panicked spectators fled for the exits. Officials immediately halted the football game.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was treated for the gunshot wound and released.
"While the incident did not occur on WHSD property and did not involve our students, the administrative staff feels strongly that this is a good time to revisit our safety procedures," superintendent Daniel Castagna wrote in a letter to the district community on Monday.
