Pittsburgh Man Runs Over 4 In CA Carjacking Incident: Police

A Pittsburgh man was arrested in Beverly Hills after an evening of crime that left four people injured, police said.

BEVERLY HILLS, CA — A Pittsburgh man faces multiple charges following a carjacking in which four people were injured when the vehicle crashed them.

According to Beverly Hills police, a 911 call occurred for a reported carjacking shortly after 7 p.m. The victim stated a man used force to steal her vehicle, a black BMW X3, before fleeing the area.

A short time later, a second 911 call reported a vehicle-pedestrian accident. After arriving on the scene, police discovered that the driver of the carjacked vehicle lost control and crashed into four people. The driver fled the scene on foot, but was quickly apprehended by police.

The accident victims included two men, one woman and a male juvenile. They were taken to area hospitals. Their conditions were unknown as of Friday morning.

The suspect, James Portul, 22, of Pittsburgh, has been charged with carjacking and hit and run with injury.
