Pittsburgh Personal Care Homes Owner Owes $326K In Back Wages, Damages
The U.S. Department of Labor has ordered the Pittsburgh operator of facilities for special needs people to pay $326K it owes its workers.
PITTSBURGH, PA — The U.S. Department of Labor has recovered more than $326,000 in back wages and damages for workers at a Pittsburgh-area residential homes operator.
The department's wage and hour division investigation found that Passavant Memorial Homes, whose corporate offices are in Warrendale, didn't include non-discretionary bonuses when calculating overtime wage rates for 504 employees. Those bonuses must be included when calculating overtime wages under the Fair Labor Standards Act, the department said in a release.
“Passavant Memorial Homes workers deliver essential care and enable people in need to live with dignity," said John DuMont, wage and hour division district director said. "Yet too often they are shortchanged their hard-earned wages by employers that don’t include non-discretionay bonus payments in overtime calculations.
